How does monthly salary work ....first paycheck?

  • How does monthly salary work ....first paycheck? --------------------------------------… I just accepted a position that is salary. I will find out more details about the pay schedule soon. But I am curious if the pay period starts the 11th of every month and ends the 10th of every month ...and I start July 11th... will it take me 2 months to recieve my first paycheck. Paydays are on the 29 of every month... I wishfully hoping that they I would get a paycheck June 29th for pay period jul 11-aug 10.....but I know it will most likely be Aug 29...wishful thinking

No. That is not the way monthly paychecks work (legally). Whatever the payday date, you are paid for the entire months salary, currently. I am now retired, but last month I was salaried and paid monthly. On June 15th, 2011, I was paid my entire month's salary for June 2011. You might imagine that I was paid two weeks "late" and two weeks "ahead." Your first paycheck will be actual -- a prorated amount of the time you will actually have worked during the month. So, if you start on the 11th, for example, you will be paid for the 11th to the 31st on the 29 of July.
