Pay-pal question: What is the difference between UK Standard rates and UK Merchant rates?
-
As a new seller on ebay, and a new user of pay-pal, which of the following fee set ups applies to me? I understand that pay-pal takes the fees monthly. Are these taken from my pay-pal account (so i should leave enough money in there to cover these fees each month)? Or are these fees taken from my bank account? UK and other European Country* Standard rates: 3.4% + Fixed Fee (see table below) Merchant rate (requires one-time application, qualifying monthly sales volume, and account in good standing, see “Merchant Rate” page): UK Merchant rates: From 1.4% to 2.9% + Fixed Fee

Answer:
These are not taken out of your account monthly, just deducted from each transaction. Standard rates are a little higher. Merchants usually list more items so the fees are lower. To qualify you have to sell a certain amount every month.
