Should I put my name on the business bank account?

Can my phone contract be put in my mums name but be accounted to my bank account? Under18.?

  • Im 17, and looking into getting a contract phone. Mum is not willing to have the phone be credited to her account as she has a lot of direct debit already coming out of it. Does anyone know of any particular stores etc that will let the contract money come out of my bank account? My mum will provide details for the phone etc, it just has to come out of my account. I get weekly EMA payments and currently have a part-time job. So paying for it will not be a problem.

  • Answer:

    i think so yes.

Yes, although your mother will remain responsible for any payments on which you default (don't forget EMA is being abolished)

The bank account will need to be the bank account of whoever signs the contract (ie your mum). However, you should be able to change it afterwards to your own one, possibly after the first month has come off. You could always ask at the shop beforehand, although it is likely a matter for the mobile network, so if you have one in mind, then maybe phone thier helpdesk to check. Alternatively, you could always set up a standing order to go into your mum's account from yours every month.
