How long does an employer have to contest unemployment benefits?

Is my FORMER employer paying a portion of my unemployment benefits that I am currently receiving?

  • I was recently terminated from my part time job at Tim Hortons in toronto and I now receive unemployment benefits. Ho is my former employer currently being affected by this? Are they currently paying a portion of my benefits? I know while u r working they contribute to an E.I account for all employees , but how is the former employer affected when the employee no longer works there and is now collecting these e.i benefits every 2 weeks?

  • Answer:

Unemployment benefits are a payout of an INSURANCE policy, the premiums for which your employer must pay, based on a number of factors including the number of employees they have, how often, and how many people they lay off over time, and the particular line of business they may be in. Your benefits are based on the amount you earned and time you were on the job. Good luck.

If you are eligible to received ui benefits for the separation reason from your last employer (HO) then their "reserve account" as it is referred to is affected because that is where the UI Dept. is withdrawing a certain percentage from that account to pay for your ui benefits. If they are the ONLY employer in the based period of your claim - then you are drawing from HO only if there are more then one employer in the based period of your claim then each affected employers contribute to your ui benefits amount you are collecting. visit www.unemploymentguru.com if you need more details info and looking for work or skills training program.

Indirectly. Your employer pays to a fund, much like insurance. If their turnover gets high, their "insurance" rates go up.
