What does it mean when your account has been compromised?

Credit card information may have been compromised?

  • Hello! I received a letter today from my bacnk saying, "some credit card information on your credit card account may have been compromised at an undisclosed third-party location." What does this mean? Even though the card is in my possession, can someone use my CC for his/her purchase? or someone opened my information on file such as SSN, address, or account activity details at the bank? Could you please explain? I asked to the bank but they told me the same thing again as it is mentioned on the letter. THANK YOU!!

  • Answer:

It means that someone gained unauthorized access to a data base that could contain your card information. Could be a retailer.

Other answers

there are jerks that can break into computers, so check statements very carefully

The e-mail may be legitimate but it may also be a trick to get you to give some scammer your info. I suggest you call your bank or visit your local branch to verify this.
