Is it typical for an internist to charge a retention fee?

If an ATM run by another bank at a convenience store does not charge a fee, can your bank still charge a fee?

  • I used a PNC Bank atm at a Wawa convenience store. They are known for having no atm fees, say so on the atm and do not have a disclaimer anywhere in the interface. However, I was charged $2.50 for withdrawing money from my Wachovia account through the machine. I was under the impression that if an atm did not charge a fee, it didn't matter where you did your banking. In the Wachovia check card/debit card agreement I could not find an atm fee anywhere. I know Wachovia charges for instant transfers to and from non-Wachovia accounts, but I don't know about atm withdrawals. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

there are potentially 2 types of fees for using an ATM: 1-the fee charged by the machine you use, and 2-the fee your own bank charges for using ATMs outside their network. The Wawa ATM does not charge for #1 but Wawa and PNC have no control over #2. there is a message to this effect on the screen at Wawa ATMs if you look closely. $2.50 seems really high so you might wish to find out from Wachovia just what their ATM fee scheme is but it sounds like you ought to stick to Wachovia ATMs.
