Does anyone know how banks fail?

Does anyone know which banks will fail? 2009...?

  • Does anyone know which banks aren't doing so well right now, or will get bought out of just close? Because currently I have a Bank of America account right now, and I used to love them and now they are HORRIBLE, I went $5 dollars over in my bank account they charged me the regular over draft fee (which is fine) but then because I was unaware I was negative (I don't use my bank card that much) I was then charged ANOTHER fee because I didn't pay the first fee within 5 days. I asked them I wasn't notified and they responded with, well we send out a notice with you monthly bank statement. OMG do you know how many pointless things come in there? Does anyone read it? Half the time its junk. So now I asked them if I can pay it in small amounts, they said if I could but it would have to be with in a five day period otherwise they charge me another fee! Anyways, needless to say, soon as I pay them their stupid fee, I'll be closing my account. So does anyone know which banks are doing well right now? I don't want to open another account with a failing bank or someone who has ridiculous fee's. Thanks.

  • Answer:

It depends on your state. Many community banks are doing really poorly because they took on so many bad mortgages, and now do not have enough capital to absorb the losses they will incur. Georgia is doing really poorly in this regard. I would suggest you join a local credit union. You do not have to be a member of a certain job group like in the past, most communities have credit unions that you can join just because you live in that community. You may not get the "pretend" benefits of a large bank, but your fees will be lower, your interst rate on loans will be lower and the credit union is owned by it;s members, those who have money in the credit union, so if you want to be involved, you can be. Credit unions took no money from the government, because they are not beholden to make money for stockholders as are banks. Good luck. I too was a BOA customer until I made a deposit to an atm at the bank, realized i was given credit for the wrong amount, and couldnt get it fixed there- had to call the 800 number, a nightmare with BOA, and was told that the system would have to find and fix the error. WHAT?????A human can no longer help me, I have to wait on hold for 25 minutes, and then wait for a computer to fix a computer error. NICE!!!!
