What is the best debt consolidation program?

  • I have looked into this and found a company called Legal Helpers. Is this company legit and if not what are some good companies or websites that can help me?

    There is no such thing as a "Best debt consolidation" company. They are all money making operations that will take your money, force you to be horribly delinquent on your accounts, and then try to force your creditors to settle for less than you owe. Problem is, these companies cannot promise that your creditors will go for this tactic, and most don't. Meanwhile, your credit is now really in the toilet, and you PAID for the pleasure of possibly accelerating the credit card companies to sue you! If you want to get your finances sorted out and your bills paid off, contact a local chapter of http://www.nfcc.org. They are non profit and will work with your creditors and you to get you on a plan to pay things off in a timely fashion.

The other person who answered you has given a bit of wrong information. She is referring to debt settlement, not debt consolidation. There are plenty of good, legal companies for both, but which one you use depends on your circumstances. I've provided a link below to an article that explains how *many* debt settlement companies work. However, as I said above, there are some very good and very legal companies out there. Debt consolidation is different from debt settlement. The consolidation company arranges for your creditors to accept smaller monthly payments and they make the payments for you.
