In Canada would I be able to use my Student Card as valid ID?

Can I use a credit card I got in Canada in Japan?

  • It's kind of complicated . . . I'm an international student from Japan studying in Canada. While here, I applied for a credit card from TD Canada Trust (although I haven't received it yet, it was approved); it's Visa. Since I'm an international student with no income, it'll be a secured card for $1000. I was thinking . . . when I go back to Japan in the summer, it's likely that I'll need to repair my laptop/buy a new one. But all my money is in a bank account here in Canada at TD. I was hoping that, since it's a type of Visa card, I could use the card I'll get even in Japan? Is this possible? Also, the thing is that my credit card will be secured for $1000 because here, the only time I would use it is for an emergency. But a new computer would probably be more than $2000. That means I wouldn't be able to use the supposed credit card for a payment that big, anyway, right?

  • Answer:

With a visa you should be able to use the card internationally.

If your limit is 1000, you can't spend more than that. They should accept your credit credit as long as the establishment takes Visa. Some do, some don't. Now, when I go to Okinawa, there weren't many places that I remember that took American credit cards...but that may be different for mainland, esp. Tokyo.

Check with Visa themselves.
