How does the Taxman know how much is in your bank account?

Does anyone know if you can be added to a bank account if you on the chex system?

  • Also, do you know if a person who has a single bank account can request another duplicate debit card so there would be 2 for the same account? (If the chex system doesn't allow person on) Let me explain, I was married back in 2003, divorced in 2007, shared multiple accounts with my ex husbad, and he basically decided to overdraw 2 accounts and left HUGE overdraft fees. I even tried to work with the bank explainin the situtation and that freshly out of a divorce and still in grad school, I could possibly work with them to pay the exact amount he overdrew to clear my name, but they wanted ALL of the overdraft fees and I am talking upwards of the hundreds. That said, I am now engaged and getting married in a few months, my fiance and I share all househould incomes etc and would like me to be added to HIS bank account since the chex system will not allow me to have my own GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. So question one, will they allow me to be added since he is the primary account holder and has been with this bank for almost 10yrs? Question two, if not, will they issue another debit card for the single account so that I can have access to the account? I must say in the Northeast with all this weather, no one wants to trudge across the gas station with cash when you can much easier use your debit card! Thanks in advance guys. And please give serious answers...not what you "think". I plan on calling the bank sometime this afternoon but in the meantime I would like to know what to expect.

Do you still have debt that needs to be paid? If so do not sign on to your husbands account. Debt collectors can get court orders and take his money once you are a signer on his account. If you are debt free and still on chex systems then it is up to bank policy. Yes as a signer on an account you can get a debit card in your name.
