How long does it take to open a Natwest Current account?

How long would it take to transfer £700?

  • I need to put £700 in a hsbc account. I need to transfer it from my account with natwest to the hsbc account how long will it take to transfer it before it clears if i did it tomorrow morning. Will it be quicker between two natwest banks? or would it be better put it in £250 £250 £200 over 2 days?

  • Answer:

Sending smaller amounts will not be quicker in this case. If you effect the transfer ONLINE using ONLINE BANKING (note, this will not work with telephone banking) you may be able to send it via the banks' new 'Faster Payments Service' - this is reserved for payments under £1000 at the moment, and will get the money to the other account in under 2 hours. Ring the telephone banking helpline at HSBC to confirm this with them.

It can take up to 3 to 5 working days, which is crazy, because in effect it should take one day (the banks do it to earn interest on your money). However, if you transferred between banks in the same network the transfer should be instant. You might be better going to the bank and withdrawing it in cash and lodging it into the other account. Why do you need to break it down to 3 amounts? £700 is not that much, considering other transfers the banks are used to.
