  • hi i was just wondering how do you open a second account. what im trying to do is to be able to transfer a certain amount of money i have in my account that i use for everyday use. the current and only account i have is connected to my debit card . im the type of person that once you get your wage from work spend it straight away!!!! what i want to do is just have a account that i can still access via INTERNET BANKING but not connected to my card. how do i open a account like this so then i can put money aside to save???? any answers would be appreciated THANKYOU :) BY THE WAY I'm 17.

  • Answer:

i would suggest opening another checking account package because if you do like to transfer, there is a government regulation that limits the amount of transactions you can do from your savings account every month. if you have another checking account it doesnt limit the amount of transactions you can do.

If you're using a brick and mortar bank you can just walk in and open a separate savings/money market account. Money Markets Account (MMA) offer higher interest (except in recent times) and act like a savings account that you can write checks out of in an emergency. You're limited to 6 withdrawals a month (in the US) so that will keep you from constantly taking cash out. If you have a pretty stable income, you can even set it up so on payday a certain amount can go into your Savings/MMA automatically.
