How to make $100K+ a year?
-
I'm currently in the military (Air Force) and make about, what, about $18k a year? I'm only 19 years old and like any other person, has dreams of making good money once I'm older. I'm going to try to at least get an Associates degree while in the service (only have about 3 years left) and finishing the last 2 years for my Bachelors degree once I'm out. So I'll be about 24 when I'm done with college. I was planning on either getting the ECE degree (electrical and computer engineering) it interests me, the only problem would be that I'm not good with math (calculus, etc), but I guess that's what college is for right? If I didn't do that, I'd either go with accounting (my uncle is a certified public accountant, CPA, and makes pretty good money, so I guess I'd have a door open there, even though I should probably not depend on that) or something related in the IT field since my current job is information assurance. (3D0X3) By the way, I do like math, I like all of the above jobs that I listed, I just wasn't great at pre-cal in high school. With the ECE, I wanted to get more into electronics engineering rather than electrical engineering. With the CPA, my uncle works for a big energy company, he has people working under him, just putting that out there, I could probably ask him if he could help me get started with accounting. I was also leaning more towards accounting since it's simpler math. I live in Houston, TX btw. Also, I often add details as I start receiving answers so check back if you can. P.S. I'm leaning more towards Accounting/CPA

Answer:
I think you've asked this before. Anyway, a good education in a good paying field which interests you should lead to your goal. Figure out what you want to do and go after it. Most employers seek out ex-military people with good educations as they appreciate the discipline which the military brings to such people. Good luck and thanks for serving and protecting our country.

Stay in the military a while and try to get jobs in your area of interest. When you get out, you will have a veteran's preference in getting civil service jobs. You won't get rich working for the government, but you can get comfortable. And it can be very satisfying work, no matter what the anti government idiots say.

follow that path, that area is good money
Computer Science. Highest job salary out of college.

There is no better alternative than a JOB while you are trying to FINISH a degree. Not an associates degree...a full bachelors. The Air Force program has all sorts of allowances for going to work and having to deploy and the instructor just says, "When would you like to make alternate arrangements?" Do some searches on jobs on the outside. Don't major in anything that doesn't have a lot of jobs. Once you get a degree, go apply for OTS. Get the 5 years experience that most companies demand doing just what you are doing now but getting paid as an officer. Look up Lt pay. After you have 10 years of service, find a reserve job to finish up your time. By then they will be giving early outs and you will be able to retire with 15 years of service at full retirement. In the reserves that comes at age 60. In the mean time you have a job in the civilian sector that you have started and are moving up in. Don't diss the air force...use it.
