When my friends dont have jobs and i lend money , can i ask for it back?
-
When my friend did not have a job at 16 , i used to lend him money to go places , do things with me or other people. He always said that when he gets a job he would pay me back. In the 2 years i have been doing this ( now 18 ) , he currently owes me £1200 . Am i within my rights to ask him to start paying me back now he has a job ? Unofficially of course. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ha! Good luck with that one. Sorry. I was always the earner when my friends were in college. Now that they have great jobs and beatiful homes they don't even associate with me. It is very sad for me b/c they were my life long friends. Don't get me wrong I am not a loser by any means, just that I am not into all the glitz and glamour that they are. I would rather have pocket money then be mortgage poor. I am sorry I lent them any money, ever. You can try to collect but do not be surprised if your friend gets angry. I have come to the conclusion that there are takers and givers in this world. Unfortunately, my friend, you and I are the givers. In reality, if he wanted to pay you back he would have. He has and had no intention of doing so. Try it out on a small scale, ask if he can pay for something that they two of you do together - his response will give you some insite on how he is thinking. From one giver to another, best of luck and I hope you re-coup.

He always said that when he gets a job he would pay me back. - so, yes!
Yes, you can ask. Legally, you are entitled to it, but if you didn't have a contract... it's your word against his. The rule of thumb is never lend to friends or family unless you don't really need the money back because too many people will never pay it back. Let him know that you're willing to take payments and figure out what a fair amount each month would be. Good luck.
You can ask him anything you like Whether or not he is going to actually pay you back is another ball of wax entirely
You can unofficially. But this is up to him.You can however have some idea of his honesty.and trustworthy.
why the hell not.
