How would I fill out a MoneyGram to myself?

Moneygram scammed big bucks! HELP!?!?

  • Heres the deal: I had signed up for a Mystery shopper thing and was put on a 'wait list.' I did check it out on BBB and there were no neg. reports in 36 mos. Got the intro letter recently and a check for 3499.86 from Walmart. Again, I went and checked out that the phone # matched the name of the business (it did) and the address matched too. All for Walmart Marketing, Bentonville AR. (I even noticed on the tag from some walmart brand items it lists the addy in Bentonville, AR) The instructions were this: Take and cash the check, go to walmart and send a moneygram for 2900 to a family member I trusted (bc they would be returning the money to me) and then report to the Co. what I had been charged (The assignment was to make sure they weren't overcharging for moneygram) and the Ref ID for the moneygram so it could be verified as a transaction (so they could prove I did it). I have done all of that and went on to my 2nd assignment, the customer service part. I was told to take 200 of the enclosed money and make a purchase at Walmart with that money, fill out a complete evaluation form, and fax the form plus my reciept to the number they gave me. Done! Easy right? well, I was told to wait until I had recieved a call to allow my family to go get the money (avg response time 2hrs unless at the end of the work day, then in the morning the next day). I submitted my info today around 4:30pm (workday ends at 5:30pm) and have yet to recieve a call, waiting paitently. Yet, my family member tried to get the money now (w/o hearing the ok) and it showed as "moneygram not in recieveable format" to the cashier. Although I am hoping it is still fine, my stomach is curling with worry. I did check the BBB and talked to the mystery shopper Co. 1st even amd thought I was in the clear wha do I do if it is a scam... what do I do? Any help is amazing

Nope ... you've got yourself into some big financial trouble now ... that check is going to "bounce" and the bank is going to come after YOU for that money. NOBODY trusts a virtual "stranger" (no offense) with a REAL check for $3500 ... what's to stop you from cashing it and bailing? If it was "legit" couldn't they do the same thing with $35? Definitely less risk for THEM, as a "company." See what I mean? ANYTHING that has to do with cashing a check and "wiring" money somewhere and keeping some for yourself ... is a BIG SCAM ... I'm sure that somehow, they've "intercepted" the transaction or put a "hold" on it (because YOU gave them the Moneygram number in question) to somehow get the $2900 ... ... yeah, I hate to say it so bluntly, but ... you're SCREWED. I don't know what to tell you to do ... just that you got swindled. Good luck.

Sorry, but Mr. Bo Jangles is spot on.

From the sites that I have read, the fake check scam is not an uncommon scam. (they also recommend not to apply for the mystery shopper emails as those can be fronts to get victims). I also find it weird that Wal-mart sent you the check but they didn't identify themselves during your conversations that you would mystery-shop at their stores. A letter-head on a business letter can be forged. Remember, companies can be victims just as easily as individuals. Remember If it's sounds too good to be true, it probably is not real. Here are some sites that I visit in addition to the BBB these days to avoid scammers. (I've been sent email by 3 that I caught through searches this summer..Unfortunately a website was bad and now a couple of scammers have my information. I'm in the process now of cleaning up the mess.) And in some cases, the BBB had no information on them or no reports..I'm just not sure how current BBB can be if you're just checking for scammers. those evil persons move and set up new whenever they are about to get caught... What you need to do if you feel this is fraud is to file a police report. Sending a falsified check in the mail would be considered illegal, I believe. the problem is if you have spent the money before the bank realized it was fraudulent. Then you would need to pay back the bank. But file the report quickly to protect yourself. And save the emails and any correspondence you had with the so-called company. the police may need that.

They Did The Same thing With me. They just told Me To Send It To London. It hurts Cause I just Got In College And I really Need The Money And I have No Job? It was Wayyy To Good To be True. According To What You All Are Saying its More then likely A Scam. Can I Sue? For How Much?

How have you lost any money other than the $200 you had a shopping spree with? If you sent the money through Money gram to someone you know and trust I don't see how you could have lost it. It does seem a little strange but it seems that you have control of the money because there is no way for them to get it unless you left something out. If it is a scam be prepared to write a check. ADD: I forgot you gave them the transaction number drive to Wal Mart as fast as you legally can and see if you can cancel it or stop it somehow.

It all sounds very fishy to me. I would contact Moneygram directly to inquire about it as you should have the receipt. I'm wondering: Did you call the bank the check was drawn on to be sure it was good? Did you provide all the Moneygram info that would be needed to pick up the money? Did you look for information on scamwarners.org? I wish you the best of luck.
