Is it ok to lend money to friends?

  • One night, I was staying at a friends house and everything was great until her and her boyfriend started to get physical with each other. I decided to call the cops, and she was the one that ended up going to jail. Her boyfriend bailed her out of jail, but now they don't have enough money to make the rent for this month. And of course, they will get evicted and the eviction will ruin their credit for 7 years... they also have no where to stay or anything like that. In order for them to make the rent on time, I would need to loan them 350 dollars. Should I do it? I've known this girl for about 12 years but we aren't as close as we used to be. She promises to pay me the money back through financing and just this one time I'm choosing to take her word for it. What would you do in this situation?

    Never lend money to friends or relatives. That is a sure fire way to end the friendship and/or start a family feud. You can GIVE them money, if you have it to give. That's entirely up to you. But don't lend it to them expecting it to be paid back. If you can afford to give her the money and you don't care if she pays it back or not, then that's a great thing to be able to help out a friend. If you need that money and you're counting on her paying it back, then don't loan it. Just tell her that you don't have the money due to your own financial situation.

Never, never, never loan money to friends that are that deep in bills. You will never see a dime of it back. Now if you want to do like 1/5 of it, that isa different story. May as well just put it out the window on the highway cause you will never see it again.

Yeah, if you "loan" them money, don't ever ever expect for them to pay you back. Doesn't matter how long yuo've known her or how good of friends you are. Money always ruins friendship like this. My husband and I have done this a billion times, and now we know better...
