How do Unemployment extensions work?

How do unemployment insurance benefit extensions work?

  • i havent gotten a first extension yet but the end of my first file ended this week and i onlu got paid for one week instead of 2 like i usually get. I even got my claim form a week early. Is this how it usually works in california? Will i get my first extension soon? Or how will i know if im cut off completely? Plz help! I cant get thru to the UEI office

  • Answer:

Extensions, are politically based. That means, when they expire, if your state congress or federal congress doesn't extend them, they are gone. *I* was under the impression that extensions have all expired now.

Extensions in California occur automatically. You might already have it and not even realize it. Just continue to send claim forms normally. If you qualify for the extension, then your next payment should be approximately 2-3 weeks after the last one, and will be for the first two weeks of the extension.
