Why doesn't Medicaid cover Dental?

If one insurance doesnt cover, will medicaid cover it?

  • hello, i was trying to schedule a doc's appointment and they asked for my insurance info. i have medicaid so i told them that and i know medicaid covers what i need to get done but i have another insurance and i have a feeling that it wont cover it. they told me to bring my insurance because medicaid wont go through because of that insurance. if the insurance i have doesn't cover it, will my medicaid cover it?

  • Answer:

Medicaid only covers it, if your provider ACCEPTS Medicaid. If you go to a doctor who does NOT accept Medicaid, then medicaid won't cover it. You should probably clarify that up front.

You don't mention the issue, they may or may not. It also depends on the state in which you live.

Your Medicaid is not active.

In your situation your "other" insurance will be the primary policy and the welfare plan will be secondary. The doctor is required to bill your primary insurance first. That insurance will pay according to the policy. If it does cover the procedure the doctor will then bill Medicaid for the balance; if it does not cover the procedure the doctor will bill Medicaid for the entire bill. Medicaid will then pay the doctor if the procedure is a covered procedure and if it is a covered procedure Medicaid will pay even if the primary policy doesn't.
