How long is insurance effective after you leave a job?

I may have to leave my job because i have no babysitter. Can i collect employment insurance?

  • or is it called unemployed benefits? and how can i collect it? i don't want to put my child into daycare until he could talk..

  • Answer:

No, you are not eligible for unemployment insurance. That you do not WANT to put your child into daycare before he can talk is not a valid reason to quit your job and draw unemployment payments. You are expected to find a place for your child and continue to work.

To be eligible for unemployment benefits, you must lose your job through no fault of your own. Voluntary quitting due to your child, would DISQUALIFY you. Also, to keep getting benefits, you MUST be looking for work, and if you cant find a babysitter, then unable to work, so again disqualified. You posted Canada, so you may have some kind of maternity benefits there, but most likely even if you do, if like the UK, then only lasts 1 year and to wait till the child talks would be most likely around 2 to 3. good luck

No. You can't get unemployment if you quit your job because of no child care.
