If I worked 5 weeks of my Unemployment benefit year (NYS), will I get extensions when my year is up?
-
My benefit year ended this week and I have to call UI later today to file a new claim for extensions. One thing I read was that if you "have a break" in your case, you will not be eligible for extensions. Would this be me or is there reason for hope?

Answer:
Sounds like it would be you. Extensions are no longer going into effect, unless Congress does something to renew them. Working that five weeks, though, can increase the "kitty" you have to draw money from. Your benefits stop when the extension runs out, OR when the pot runs dry.

It is not that simple. The first question is whether you made enough money during those five weeks to qualify for *new* claim. If so, then you get the new claim and not an extension of the old claim.
