How much does an average car insurance company pay for a rental car?

Help! If my car insurance deductible is $750 and repairs cost $489, How much will the insurance company pay?

  • My car was vandalized. The adjuster sent me an estimate for $489. This is lower than my deductible. Does this mean that the insurance company does not have to pay anything? If so, i'm going to find some better insurance.

  • Answer:

just remember that if you lower your deductible, your rates usually go up

Do you even know what a deductible is? It means that they will not pay a DIME for the first $750 of the claim.....that means that you will pay $489 and they pay $0. If you wanted them to pay, you should have had better coverage. That has NOTHING to do with the insurance company and everything to do with the coverage levels YOU elected. If you wanted a lower deductible, all you had to do was ask. No insurance company on Earth would refuse you paying higher premiums for more coverage.....not a single one.

The company will pay $0. You don't need to find another company - the deductible is up to you. If you don't mind paying the extra premiums, you can always lower your deductible to $250 or $500. Shop around and make sure you are comparing the same coverages among companies (sometimes an agent will quote a lower rate but breeze over just exactly what the coverage is).

vandalism should fall under comprehensive, not collision and should be a lot lower deductible- my deductible for hitting a deer was only $50 - it cost $5500 to repair - insurance paid $5450

Nothing. Your damages are under the deductible. It's not that you need BETTER insurance, it's that you need a LOWER deductible. Which, of course, will COST more. The standard deductible is actually $500, and you can buy lower than that, too. YOU choose your deductibles, when you first buy your policy. Since you're not familiar with deductibles, or how they work, "do it yourself" insurance is probably not a good idea for you. When you shop this out for new coverage, you should probably use an agent, who can give you advice and guidance.

How do you know it sucks? What if would have cost you $1,000 more in premium over the past year for no deductible? Would that have been worth paying? I don't know what it would have cost, but when you buy a policy YOU determine how much risk to take and how much to transfer to the insurance company. It's not the insurance companies fault the vandals weren't more thorough.

They will pay nothing. It does not exactly mean that they do "not have to pay". That would imply it was optional. They cannot pay. Even if they wanted to pay, they would not be allowed to pay.
