Which is the best Canadian credit card to take overseas?

Why does best buy take copies of license and credit card?

  • I ordered a laptop online at bestbuy.com. When you go to the store they take copies of your id and credit card. Why is this? Is this legal? How long are these details kept? it seems very unsafe to me.

  • Answer:

They want proof they sold the laptop to you, not a scammer. Presumably they keep the details for at least 6 months, if not 2 years.

i have never had this happen to me.

How odd. I have never had that happen to me either. I wouldn't be too thrilled with someone having a copy of my credit card either. Drivers license, I don't really care. Maybe with the holiday season, they are taking extra steps to ward off fraud? I would imagine you could have asked for a manager when they were asking for that stuff to copy and ask them why, and then tell them they do NOT need to make copies of anything, and that just looking at the id and credit card are proof enough you aren't a felon. LOL
