How do I make them stop the harassing phone calls?
-
First Source Advantage calls me EVERY SINGLE DAY, multipe times a day sometimes too. They constantly leave messages that are anything but tactful and polite. I've explained I've recently gotten a divorce, lost my job, raising my child alone(no help from other parent) and on top of it all pregnant making things even harder. I've spoken once to them and they were ABSOLUTELY horrible, making threats if I didn't start paying immediately and so much more. Because of this and their messages I WILL NOT DEAL them on the phone. I told the man I would rather conduct business via US MAIL which he told me was not possible. What should I do?

Answer:
Send the collection agency a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt (do not use regular mail) stating: Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting that you cease all communications with me about this alleged debt. This letter is being time stamped via Certified Mail and I can confirm receipt. ------------------------------------- This will stop the phone calls but it could also provoke more aggressive action like a lawsuit...be careful. If this is large amount of recent credit card debt than I advise against send this letter.

well you can change your number and have it password protected, any one who knows your last digits of your SSN can get your number so that stops the calls and leaves THEM with the mail and if by chance they do find your number tell that the call is being taped which you should do. When you correspond always use certified mail. You can sue them before they sue you. what a concept. Anyways go here: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm
Do what CatDad advises and get caller ID so that you can avoid answering the phone when they call.
CatDad gave you good advice. You can also write them and tell them that they can only contact by mail send this certified with return receipt. Then if they call you again sue. Also read up on the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act to get to know your rights. They may have already violated them. Never give you bank info or credit card info over the phone. If you decided to settle get it in writing before you send any type of payment. Send money orders only. Keep records of all calls made, who you talked to, time and what was said. If your state allows record the calls. You do not need any stress being pregnant so take care of yourself and your children. The creditors can wait. Good Luck.
