How can i close out my account?

How can I keep my credit when I close my bank account?

  • When I was younger, I opened up about four bank accounts. I'm about to pay all of my credit off and I want to close one or two of them. I know that closing bank accounts can lower my FICO score since my credit/history will be deleted. How can I close a bank account without losing my credit history? Hopefully this makes sense...

  • Answer:

Bank accounts (as in checking and savings accounts) have absolutely NO impact on your score. They are not reported to the credit bureaus. Now if you are talking about credit cards, closing a credit card account does not delete it from your credit report. Closed accounts in good standing remain on your credit report for at least 10 years. They just don't count as much as open, active accounts. Be sure to use the accounts you keep open on a regular basis and pay the balance in full every month. This will keep the accounts active, build your credit history, and avoid interest. Close accounts via letter and request written confirmation that the account is closed and 0 balance. keep that confirmation forever.
