Should my school fine me for late payment if my credit card expired and i had signed up for autopay on my card?

  • My 4 year old goes to this school/day care centre .. i had signed up for auto pay.. they charge my card on weekly basis .. 4 months into the program my card expired .. n i got a call from my sons school that the card has expired n the payment has not been received .. i went in gave my new card but i find that that i have been fined for late payment stating that its my responsibility to provide for new card on time before it expires .. pls guide if its right on the school to actually charge me for something like this .. i set up auto pay so that the payment goes right on time .. but looks like the school likes to add up fees at their whim without me approving it .. i feel that since my card gets charged every week they shd have told me the first tiem the payment didnt go thru .. the school has a lil comp that u sign in n sign out on ur childs name it shows what charges are due n what they have charged .. n for those 4 weeks the school comp showed paid .. although it was not charged .. first of all the school computer is not showign right information .. n staff called me after a month informing that payments are not coming thru since the card expired .. i use amex for most of my transaction .. the school doesnt take amex so i had to use a diff card that i usually don use much .. pls help n let me know if the school is tryign to suck my money on fake grounds ...

  • Answer:

Yes. You are obligated to make payment to them in a timely manner. Since your card expired, they didn't get paid on time. What the computer was showing, most likely, was that the charge had been processed. However, the card company doesn't always stop the hold (the approval), so it can take time for the school to find out that the charge was declined in the final stage.

Yes, you are informed when your credit card expires and what what cards the school accepts, you should've made the necessary accommodations to prevent from being late on your payment. they probably are just trying to "steal" money from you, but the fact of the mater is that you agreed to preset conditions and were unable to fullful your end of the contract. Thus the fine. i

No they shouldnt its not your fault for haveing a expired credit card

When you received the new one that should have been a hint to update any auto payments, generally CC accept ongoing charges without an issue sounds like the school does hard entry pay request. The school had no excuse for not notifying you at first rejection because it would have been instantly known by any competent clerk. The question is is the fee high enough for you to be ticked? Talk with the accounts supervisor about a waiver if they disagree you are SOL as it is your liability to pay your debts
