How can I get a loan if I have no credit history?

How can I get a credit card as a college student with no credit history, student loans and a small loan?

  • I've been trying to get approved for a couple of different student credit cards and I keep getting declined. I have a $9,000 Student Loan (which I don't need to make payments on yet) and a small $400 personal loan which I've always paid on time. My credit is 700. I keep getting the same answer that there is insufficient or lack or revolving account information and the time since the oldest account was opened. I've even tried applying for a department store card and was turned down. Help please!

    Stop applying You are killing your 700 score with each inquiry you make The likelihood of you getting a credit card if you are under 21 is pretty slim now They are telling you why you can't get a card. Listen to them. You have a lack of accounts and your credit isn't old enough for them to gauge how you pay. Period. So, stop trying to get credit. As a last resort, you can try Capital One, but if they say no, then it is over.

if you were to get a card it would have a really high interest rate. wouldn't you rather pay off your debt first and then get a card? even if you dont HAVE to make payments on your loans you still should -you could try getting a card with your bank my husband had a high debt to dredit ratio and was still successful in getting a card with his bank [wells fargo] as a college student

My first credit card was through bank of america. I don't know if they still do it but, I recieved a student visa credit card when I opened up a checking/savings account. It started off as a $500 limit. It was a student credit card. It still says so on the bill!!

consider yourself lucky, and run from anyone trying to hand you one with a smile. it's hard doing without, but much harder doing without and dealing with huge credit card debts

The BEST way for you to get a credit card s a college student is wait until someone on campus gives you a flyer for some free type of food. If the paper says "Free Pizza!" It probably means you need to fill out a credit card app to get the free pizza. And guess what? You will probably get, not only a free pizza, but accepted for a credit card. Other option is go to Discover's website and fill out an application. They will most likely accept you for a student credit card. They gave me $1000 and I bypassed the free pizza option (DOH!) LAST option, there are companies out there that WILL give you a credit card no matter what your credit status. An example offer is $300 worth of credit that just happens to come with $179 worth of starftup fees. So you get your card and imediately owe $179 and only have $111 available. It just doesn't seem worth it. Aren't you in debt enough already?
