Which is the best Canadian credit card to take overseas?

I just opened a secured credit card, how long will it take to get a 600 Credit Score?

  • I am new to credit, and i opened an account with US Bank, (which i thought was good since its a national chain) and when the lady was talking, she said it takes a credit score of atleast 500-600 to get a credit card without being secured by a security (cash) deposit. Then she said that in after a year of good payments, I could come back and get a regular credit card with no problem. Meaning I took this to mean i will have a credit score of atleast 500-600 by then? I am 18, and want good credit, alot of my friends have bad credit and ive seen how it affects your life. I am seeking help with the subject, thanks in advance and thanks for reading, any reponse is appreciated

  • Answer:

The teller you talked to is either misinformed or you heard her wrong. If someone has a credit score of 600 or UNDER, there is NO way in heck they can qualify for an unsecured card! That is a HORRIBLE score that shows either the person has late pays, no pays, collection items, repos and a host of other nasty things on their report. It will take you probably at least a year if not 18 mos of using this secured card wisely to get a decent enough credit score to possibly be able to convert it to a non secured card.
