Is it illegal to sell a book without copyright credit info?

• I bought a textbook online - international copy. I'm pretty sure the selling is a scammer. I received the book and it appears to be a 2002 copy, the seller said its a 2011. There are NO copyright credits in the beginning of the book. Book goes directly to table of contents, and the cover looks homemade and top and bottom of the book also seem freshly cut - book is oddly short. The isbn on the back of the book also seem to come up empty - I used: http://www.gettextbooks.com/ . There are illustration credits and the contents in the book dates no further then 2001. I have looked through the actual book and it has up-to-date info, nothing going earlier then 2008. So my question is: Can this person that has a P.O. box in Lincoln, NE sell me a International Edition book with copyright credit page missing? Is it illegal to sell any textbooks without this page? I have another textbook that is an international edition book and it has copyright credits - and it shipped from Malaysia. And the book is "supposedly" from the same publishers - "South-Western Cengage Learning".

  It is completely illegal for anyone to reproduce and distribute copyrighted works without the permission of the copyright owners. If they charge you money for it, that is also a federal felony. You should try to get your money back, knowing that they are criminals. It is also a federal offense for them to distribute copyrighted materials in which they have tampered with or removed the lawful copyright notice. They can be fined up to $25,000 for each copy. Bottom line, you have been ripped off and they are legally required to give you your money back. Then you can STILL report them as criminals.
