What's up with the sympathy card?

Found someones credit card and used it? Whats the worse that can happen?

  • i recently found a credit card, and i was so stupid and i used it to buy a 60$ gift card at gamestop.. it was really stupid and i am really regretting it. im worried that the credit card company will investigate the charges and my information will be found and i get in trouble. i want to go and return the credit card tomorrow but i dont want to get in trouble, and i dont have the 60$ to return. what can i do? can i just send the card back and forget about it and never do something this stupid again? will 60$ be enough that the credit card company will investigate? ive heard that cc willl not investigate on individual low dollar amounts, since its just one charge.. please answer

How many times are you going to post this question? You had more details in your first question. The fact you used this credit card and your rewards card together, even though you returned the item you purchased, has made it so unbelievably easy to find out who you are that a few minutes of investigation will lead right back to you. At the very least, you can expect to lose your job if they ever figure out you "found" this credit card by one of your customers forgetting it where you work (again, something pretty easy for them to figure out). Worst case scenario you're probably looking at community service and a criminal record if this is your first offense. Might want to start looking for a lawyer.

You used a credit card you "found" that happened to belong to a customer. Nice. Retail theft, embezzlement, credit card theft, fraud on a couple of different counts and no job. With a little luck if you find the cash to make this right, you could avoid jail. Yes...a stolen credit card will trigger an investigation.

You can be arrested, charged with THEFT (by using it), and get probation, go to jail for a little while, and/or have to pay a fine to the store. I suggest you cut it up and throw it away or rather keep it cut up to prove you never used it. If it is never used then the store never lost money when the person who owns the credit card stops the payment to the store. If a police officer comes to your house to question you admit what you did but let them know you cut up the gift card and threw it away or show them it is cut up so the store didn't lose any money. It is probably best to keep it but cut it up so no one else can use it and then you have proof you realized your mistake in using someone else's credit card. Then the chance of being charged with a lesser crime OR having the case dismissed is more favorable if you never actually used the gift card and cut it up to make sure no one else used it. Cut the credit card up and throw it away in a public trash can (like a McDonalds trash can). And don't try to return the gift card or credit card because you are admitting you have them and admitting guilt. If you just destroy it and throw it away (not at your home) then there is less of a chance that the police will be looking for you.

yes im also getting sick of people asking this yes they will investigate it no matter the dollar amount and the charge will be reversed and gamestop will be -60.00 and they will or can ID you at the time you got the gift card i would make things right and drop the card off at one of the banks that it is issued from or destory the card now most cards will have a chip and pin so people like you cant take peoples credit

Well first it was really stupid to assume you get away with using someons credit card. if you signed your name while purchasing the gift card you could go to jsil depending on what happens
