In what universities to study accounting and finance?

Should I study something else alongside ACCA to help me find any type of accounting/finance related work?

  • I am in the early stages of self studying ACCA with ZERO office work or accounting experience which doesn't help with finding any sort of work within the field. I'm considering taking any short course in accounting alongside ACCA to improve my chances landing a job as soon as possible. I've had a look at accounting vacancies online and even trainee positions require a experience or at least a qualification such as AAT. Any advice will help, I'm 28 with a poor degree and feel stuck.

  • Answer:

Hi Kay, With the job market being so competitive at the moment recruiters and employers have started looking at the activities candidates do in their spare time to improve their skills/experience. Have you considered seeing if a local charity or organisation need a little finance help? Check out do-it.org for requirements in your area. Experience doesn't just have to be paid work - while working unpaid may seem a big leap to take, it demonstrates your determination to pursue your career.
