Does Anyone Know a Good Collection Agency?

Question about williams and fudge collection agency?

  • I owe Citibank about 9,000 in two student loans. I have been paying them back faithfully for two years (the money comes out of my checking account automatically) and have never had any troubles with that (I check my account every month to make sure the money was paid). Last summer I got a harassing call from Williams and Fudge collection agency saying I had defaulted on my loan and owed them $4000 up front. I refused to pay, and then I called Citibank and they told me that my loans were not defaulted on and basically they didn't know what I was talking about, but not to worry about it. I then got a letter from W&F showing the transcript from one of my loans as proof that I defaulted. I called Citibank back, and they said there must have been some sort of mistake, that they would take care of it, and they sent me a note to fax to W&F saying my loan was not in default. A year passes, nothing from W&F, thought it was all solved. Well, last week they called and harassed my mother and said I was going to be sued, and they resent the original letter and denied having seen the info I sent them (I sent it certified mail, so I have a signed card saying they got it). Citibank keeps telling me that my loans weren't "sold", and they keep accepting my monthly payment, W&F insist that my debt is with them, not Citibank.... anyone have any advice for me? THey have my SS# so they could really screw up my credit. There was obviously a mistake here- but not mine. I have been very good about paying my debt. I read some not so good things about W&F. Am I being scammed? If so, how did they get that info that Citibank says they never sent??
