How to become a rally car driver?

  • i want to now how you would get sponsred (by monster,dc) and how to start

  • Answer:

Getting sponsored is generally the most difficult part, and motor sports in general takes a fair amount of money to start. The first step in the UK would be to join a Racing club, one that hosts the type of racing you want to get into. The second step is get a competition license (this normally requires racing as a novice, but differs as to which sport you want to get into as there as several different levels and each sport requires a different level of skill to run) The third step is to is buy/build your car... there are plenty of cars available to buy, especially for Rallying, however they can be very expensive and sometimes buying a stable car and tuning it yourself is much cheaper... There will be certain rules (normally from the MSA, Motor Sports Association) that your car will need to adhere to. Alternatively you can find a team that is looking for a driver and apply for that... however these positions are rare and obviously there are a lot of people applying. Getting Sponsored, as I say, is normally the hardest part as most people would like you to have had experience or even success in the past. This won't be the case if you're just starting up. There are a number of schemes in the UK (and I presume internationally) run by car manufacturers for young people to get boosts in motor sports (particularly Rallying) and these can be an easy way to get experience without forking out quite so much for the car/etc... but there will no doubt be auditions and tests of skills. It's ALWAYS worth finding your local Motor sport club and asking them... for the price of a Membership (normally around £30 a year for a non-competitor and £100 for competitor) it's worth getting some advice.

First identify the what sanctioning body you want to race with. Find how how to become qualified to drive in the series. Then identify a class of cars that you can afford to compete in. Prepare your car and yourself. Then go win some races. You will also need to find a co-driver/navigator. Check out Grassroots Motor Sports, they have a section dealing with who races where in most parts of the US.
