What equipment\paints do you need to paint a car?

I want to paint a portion of my car what do i need to do?

  • so i have a black 1992 nissan nx2000, but it has an annoying gray vinyl strip running around the car it doesn't match the color of the rest of the car and i want to paint it black so it will match but i don't want to take it to a body shop and have to pay them $300 to do something im pretty sure i can do with a $10 can of spray paint anyway i want to know what kind of paint should i get and what should i do to prep the car before painting also i have turn signal lights along the gray strip on the sides of the car as well i would like to black these out or just paint over them is this legal? also would i need a different kind of paint to do this? thanks.

    You won't ever get it right with a rattle can. Go spend the cash to do it right.

painting is 90 percent preparation and 10 percent painting, unless you match the color perfectly, and tape off above and below the stripe, using scotch blue painters tape and newspaper it will look like what it was, rattle can paint job. Most people get it either too thick or too thin, and if its thick it runs and looks like crap. I suggest that unless you know what you are doing, leave it alone. You can find the paint in any big automotive store, many have big cans of automotive touch up colors, sometimes the color you want may be in stock sometimes you can order it
