What kind of car engines are there?

How do I determine what engine fits my car? And what kind of engines fit in an '02 Cougar V6?

  • I want to do an engine swap and hop up my car, but Im not sure where to start. As far as Im concerned I would like something faster or more powerful than I already have. And I would like to know what kind of engines fit my car. Thanks

  • Answer:

In all honesty theres really no need to swap engines, unless you are looking for a V8 or something fancy upon that. Search up online on sites that do work to cougars. Unless you have a lot of miles on the car, there is no need to an engine swap, just drop a supercharger/turbocharger an ecu and have a good day ya know?? just do some searching!

I believe the '02 Cougar was available with a 4.6 liter V8. Either that engine, or a 5.0 liter should should fit comfortably in the engine compartment (the 4.6 would be easier since it was an option on that car). You just have to get the right motor mounts and electronic equipment to go with the engine. You might also need to get a different transmission to go with your V8.

If you try to put in an engine and you can't get it in the compartment or can't get the hood closed, it's too big. If it falls out of the bottom of your engine compartment, it's too small.
