How to remove 2001 honda civic shocks, struts?

How to remove stuck struts from adjustable coilover sleeves?

  • I bought a 95 honda accord recently and found out it had Skunk2 adjustable coil-overs with KYB gr-2 struts in it. The existing struts are totally shot and it bounces like crazy. So i bought the matching skunk2 sport shocks/struts for it but i cant seem to get the old struts out of the sleeve. I tried PB blaster but that didnt work. The struts seem to be caked in there with rust grease and corosion. i want to get them outta there with out damaging the adjustable coil-overs. Have you ever heard of this happening, has this ever happened to you or do you have any suggestions on how to remove the strut from the sleeve?

  • Answer:

I would bring them to a professional, with a torch and all the stuff. But that was not the question. I think the sleeves will come off with the struts, so you will have to get the connecting bolts off and get the struts off, they are under pressure, and so be care full. I would get the bottoms off first, and then the tops will be easier. The bottoms will release any pressure that amy be there. Don't be afraid to use a mallet to make things easier.
