New changes practical car driving test?

Do i have to take a driving test with an officer to get my license in Texas?

  • i turned 16 in may, however i got my permit in march so i can get my license in september. i am taking the parent taught course and many of my friends didnt have to take a driving test, their parents just signed a waiver and they were handed their license (of course with all of the in-car practice and stuff). i heard there was a law that was went into effect september 1st of last year that says we all must take an actually behind the wheel driving test before getting our licenses. is that true? i've had my permit stuff (like i had signed up for parent taught last summer but didnt officially get my permit until march of this year) since last summer if that changes anything?

My son take the home course and he didn't have to do a driving test, because we waived it. I know they have new laws ,but i'm not sure what that means for people that's taking the home course.
