Are VW New Beetles good cars?

• Hi. I really love the Beetle and want to buy one, but I have heard a few people say that they have had problems with them. I want to get other peoples' opinions though. Do you own one, and if so, has it been a dependable car? I would definitely be getting a used one (under $5000), so I want to know that it will last for a while if I buy one. Thanks.

  I love VW... I drive a Beetle.... And i've never had problems with it...however, as it tends to age you will need to replace things and the parts are pricey. If you maintain your car right you should be fine. But I've had some weird electrical stuff happen to me... one had to do with my battery keep dieing and my cassette player and CD changer didnt work, but I unplugged my battery and plugged it back on and everything started working (only my cassette and CD, but i later found out i needed a new battery). But their fun cars to drive! Try to get a newer one... at least 2002+ less major problems.
