Looking for a web site?

I don't have a CDL but looking for a web site that will help me find a job as a yard jockey where I don't need?

  • I don't have a CDL but looking for a web site that will help me find a job as a yard jockey where I don't need one...I can drive a tractor trailer very well, and on private property, (a warehouse/plant) you are not required to have a CDL, I could prove to my employer how well I can drive a truck, I am back up and drive a 53 foot trailer, drive a 9 and 10 speed or 13 speed with a tiny bit of practice, or auto shift... Anyone know a web site or area where I could go to near Hazleton area of PA to find a place to do that?

  • Answer:

If you're really good enough to be a yard jockey just go get a CDL. You're wasting your time without the license. My suggestion would be go over the road for a company for 6months to a year ... they'll train you to get your CDL. Once you've driven over the road for 6 months you can do anything ... Long hauls , yard jockey , dedicated runs. Check out drivers.com they usually have trainee positions . Either drive or get off the pot . you can make good money with a CDL. Don't waste your life jockeying trucks around a yard.

most all companies hire "yard jockeys" that have a CDL-A, in case a street has to be crossed or they need a back-up driver to replace one when short. without a CDL-A you've got about as much chance as finding chicken teeth. you DO NOT have to ride shotgun for 6 months or any length of time to obtain a CDL-A. most large trucking companies have an "in-house" training program. you train with them but you have to sign on for a pre-determined length of time in order to repay for the training. once you have the license then they'll team you up with a road-trainer for up to 6 months, maybe less. by the way, handling and backing up 53 footers are the easiest trailers. the shorter the trailer the more involved it is to "keep up" with them,,,good luck

i don't think it will be a site specifically for that job, you'd have to apply at places that would have that position, but just so you know they won't just take your word for it that you can back up a 53 foot trailer, you'll have to have actual experience at a job doing that, they wouldn't just let you show them because you'd need to already be hired to even drive any of their equipment and back up and company's trailer in case you do mess up, you might find a place that will try you out but i doubt it, jobs are hard to come by so they'd rather hire someone with a class A CDL or at least has the experience than someone that can just say they can do good because like i said they legally can't let you just show them in their equipment
