Did a rat give birth in my car engine...what should I do?

  • Last week I noticed a strange substance under my car in my garage. It seemed to be leaking from the front bumper. It looked like oil but it was very hard, a bit sticky and waxy. I didn’t think anything of it and went out of town for 4 days. When I came back there was more of that stuff under the car and fabric as well. I opened the hood to find that my engine insulation had been chewed up and there were rat droppings all over my engine. I assumed that the rat got in there to get that stuff to make a next. I thought that the leaking stuff was rat urine. Now I’m thinking that it was a pregnant rat who went in, made a nest (maybe in my car front bumper) and gave birth. I’m thinking that leaking fluid was reminisce of it giving birth? Since there there has been no sign or more damage. I have set traps with no luck. I’m planning on taking my car apart so I can get into the bumper. Do you think I’m going to find a nest? What are the chance that there will be dead babies? It has been another week and there doesn’t seem to be a smell. How long after birth could the bother and the babies get out of there? Please help me figure out what to do. I can send pictures of the liquid. Jason

  • Answer:

take it apart and you probably will find a living rat nest if you haven't driven the car
