Can you help my over heating truck?

  • ok, I really need help because I'm going to school and I’m trying to look for a job and I just got to know what’s wrong with my truck. I knew for over a year that my radiator has a crack in it. I‘ve been unemployed for a long time so I couldn’t go get a radiator and I cant keep getting anti freeze every other week so I decided to just put water in my radiator . Throughout the whole year I’ve been hearing a lot of funny noises coming from my truck when I drive, last month I asked a friend about my problem and he told my that my truck could be overheating, and that causes a lot of problems. I told him that my truck also shakes sometimes, but he didn’t know about that. anyway long story short, this morning I was getting ready to go to school. I do like I always do put water in my radiator , but something was wrong because I heard this over flow under the truck as I was pouring water in the radiator . I look underneath and water was coming from under the engine area, but I didn’t freak out I just got in the truck and drove off. as soon as I pressed on the accelerator I hear this metal tapping noise and it was driving funny. but I didn’t freak-out I just decided that once I come home from school I’m going to you tube it. but as I drove further down it got louder and faster. and when I reach the top of the hill at the stop sign, as soon as I put my foot on the break the truck cut off. and I couldn’t cut it back on. I had to call my grand dad to help me and he just gave it a jump and after giving me 8 or 9 jumps it cut on and I was able to take it home. I just tried to crank it and it won’t crank. I need help what is it. I have a SLT laramie1999 dodge ram 1500 5.9L 4wd

Oh yeah you overheated it big time. First of all, you need a water-antifreeze mixture. Second of all, it is ridiculous to drive with a cracked radiator. Radiators are pressurized to keep it the antifreeze/water mixture from boiling. Now with a cracked radiator, you just let all that pressure out, now you are leaking coolant, and your allowing it to boil, which keeps the coolant from doing its job...cooling. So you have been allowing the engine to overheat for a year. I understand you don't want to put money into your truck, but what should have been a couple hundred dollar to maybe a thousand dollar fix, probably just blew out your engine. So you will either have to find a new vehichle, or try and get a rebuilt engine for, if you are lucky, $2500... I know this is not what you wanted to hear, and I hope none of this came off as offensive, just laying down the facts :/.. Best of luck to you!

Ok bro the tapping sound was hot motor the reason 8 top 9 jumps then fired up is it cooled down. You need to check oil see if milky if so blown head gasket either rebuild motor or junkyard salvaged one. If oil good then replace radiator and thermostat use correct antifreeze and water mix. Antifreeze is in system to prvent freeze up and lubricate waterpump. Run and get bubbles out! Let cool down and pressure check system. Should be all good. And the shaking in front wich might whip sterring in your hands around is the stabilizer and shocks replace if needed. Had same happen to me and sterring wheel would pull out of my hands.

this time of year water freezes, depending on where your at could of froze and cracked otherwise yeah major overheating. im not going to repeat it but the first post hit the nail right on the head, the more pressure you put on water the higher the boiling point where as a vacuum lowers it. Heat is never a good thing and the radioator is going to be a cheap fix compared to where i am guessing your headed. I have a radiator for a 5.2L dodge sitting in my yard that i would give away. Get on craigslist or get to the salavges yards you can pick up a used one to atleast get by till a new one can be installed. I wish you the best of luck, them magnums are a good motor used to have 2, down to one now, they can take alot of things but heat aint one of em. If you can find a tranny ill sell you my remaining 5.2l magnum for 600 bucks with all the computer boxes and what not, 120k miles on it, auto 4x4
