How to set timing on a 94 honda civic?

How to set timing on 185s honda?

• changed timing chain what do you line up to set timing to make sure its not 180 degrees off

  (1) take out spark plug and put in a regular writing pencil in the spark plug hole. (2) open up the cdi housing ( round thing at top and side of engine ) (3) mark postion of cdi plate with a black marker ( it looks like a round plate with things bolted to it) (4) unscrew that plate and you will see a piece with two springs on it. take this piece out (unbolt it ) (5) unbolt top of head. it should have 4 allen bolts and 4 regular bolts. (6) you will now see a timing gear with the timing chain attached. one end will have an "o" on it. (7) unscrew the round "flat head bolt" right above the pull starter. ( its a bear, heat/lubricant helps ) (8) turn your magneto ( thing behind the pull start ) easier if you remove the pull start. (9) look through that top "flat head bolt" hole for a line with a "T". keep the line at center of view hole. (10) when "T" line is center and pencil is at its highest level ( pushed up by piston ), you are at "tdc". (11) look at that top gear with the chain and the "o" should be at 12 oclock. (head will have a v on it) when all 3 things are correct you are at top dead center with the "T" line center and the "o" at 12 oclock ( or use the "V" mark on the upper head part you unbolted) and the pencil at its highest point. you are now correctly timed. timing is far easier with the engine removed,because the top of the head may be blocked by the frame. remember pencil at its highest, "T" line center and "o" at 12 oclock (or "o" directly under the "V" mark on top of head you unbolted). ( T line is the line next to the "T" and not the "T" itself.when all of this is correct, bolt everything back together. head top bolts and allens should be done in an "X" pattern until tight.line up your cdi with the black marks you used earlier ( this has to be right or it won't run right ).hope this helps. read all of this before doing it.
