What oil to use in my Polaris ATV?
-
Today I bought a used Hawkeye 300, it's a 2007 model. 300 cc air cooled engine. The owners manual says to use 0W-50 weight synthetic oil in the crankcase. I looked at Autozone and O'Reilly's. Neither one had it. They both had Mobil 1 synthetic 0W-40. Would this be OK to use in the ATV? It gets above 100 degrees here in the summer, and down to about 10 degrees in the winter. The ATV has 64 hours on the meter and 650 miles on the odometer.

Answer:
since your weather gets cold, but not SUPER cold, you are better off keeping the last spec the same (the 50 operating temp rating) , but trying to find as close to 0w as possible. So if you had the choice, I would suggest to go with 5w-50 over 0w-40. Or try contacting an ATV store, they may carry the specialized oils and have 0w-50.
