Check engine light 1997 grand am?

1997 toyota avalon xls, check engine, abs, and blinking traction control light?

  • I'm considering buying this car from a buddy of mine. The car runs fantastic and everything works perfect on the car except for the check engine light, abs light, and the traction control light randomly will blink on and off. I did run the car over to advanced auto to get it checked out. -The check engine light was on due to a bad "Oxygen Sensor". ($50 bucks at advanced) - They couldn't say anything about the abs or the blinking traction control light. Now I've had to deal with the abs on these types of cars before and it usually deals with the sensor in one of the wheels, but could be something else. What I'm trying to figure out is why the traction control light is blinking off and on, never heard of that before, could there be a short in the wire? Any opinions would be great :)

  • Answer:

I just went through the same problem on a 99 Chrysler LHS. It's the ABS control module. Locate the module and check for power to it and or hook up secondary power source and see if electric pump is working. I was quoted $2300 plus replace any brake lines that are needed. Got one from wreckers for $100 and did it myself. It's not an easy job but the savings were worth it.

It could be as simple as a bad parking brake switch, low level of brake fluid or a bad brake light switch
