Why does my car make some noise when i accelerate on my gas?

  • Hey guys I have a 1992 chevy camaro v8 5.0 automatic.........Well my question was how come when i accelerate or press on my gas to go faster i hear some rattling noise sort of like a snake but a heavier pitch and it only happens when i try going faster. When i put my foot on that peddle and accelerating at a faster speed it makes some wierd noise like if somethings loose. Also the other day i was going up hill and i was in over drive, ok and my car was going really really slow with that noise I heared that noise alot when i went up hill, and my car was slow I couldnt go any faster my RPM was toooo high. Do you guys think its my transmission or catylic converter or EGR valve or DISTRIBUTER OR fuel Filter........I need to know please cause i dont trust these mechanics these days

    A lot of times heat shields on the cat converter or other exhaust parts will cause this problem. I have never had a problem by removing them if that's the case (the thin metal heat shields). Otherwise, yes, the cat converter could make it rattle but generally in my experience this will only be when the exhaust is cold and will quiet down after a mile or so. Get a free estimate from a dealer.

It's probably not the catylic converter. Best thing to do is bring it to mechanic, don't try a self-repair.

given the age, id say the cat is the source of the noise. while it is off hot it( the cat ) with a broom stick and see if it rattles, id bet that it does. if so replace it. the other three will not make a noise.
