Can you replace just the electric pump on a 2002 chevy cavalier fuel pump?

Whats the easiest way to replace the fuel pump in a 2002 Chevy Cavalier?

  • I have a 2002 Chevy Cavalier. I know its a bad fuel pump, I'm just trying to find out if I need to drop the tank or if there is an easier way. Someone told me I can go through the back seat. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

You will have to pull the fuel tank. There is no access through the body or floor panels. I have seen some people cut a hole in the floor, but we call them butchers. The fuel tank comes out pretty easily, except if it is full.

Yes ken is right you will have to pull the tank. As soon as you have it safely jacked up spray the hardware with wd 40. Hardware tends to rust under there. Even if the tank is full it's not that bad. I like to say it just makes it come down easier!!! When a tank is down you can and get out the fill hole Into a gas can or even a 5 gallon bucket. If you use a 5 gallon bucket don't leave it overnight. Although I have it is plastic and it may be a problem. Place a board over the top of the bucket to keep anything from getting in it. Put the tank back in and fill it back up through A funnel an you're good to go. That's a good way to save a couple 100 bucks.
