Hid lights car?

Car head lights - whats HID vs LED lights? what are dual projector or retrofit mean?

  • if i want to replace my car headlights what do these terms mean, HID lights LED lights, dual projectors, retrofit

  • Answer:

Different technologies: Halogen / filament bulbs: standard bulbs. You can get upgraded Xenon bulbs up to twice as bright as normal. HID: Use an electric arc. 3 times brighter than normal bulbs, and need a ballast to produce the voltage required. Factory fitted option in some cars, and available as an aftermarket conversion kit. Legality depends on where you are, but better quality kits will generally not cause too many issues, as long as the beam pattern and colour is ok. LED: Pure electronic light, available for side, indicator, stop and tail bulbs. Not especially bright, but give a very sharp, white light. Massively long life. A couple of cars use LED headlights, but they need very specific design requirements, and conversion is not possible. Projector: a type of headlight fitting that uses a lens to focus the light forward. Used with halogen and HID bulbs. Retrofit: Altering the car from factory original.

HID are High Intencity Discharge lights, their nice but they do require some wiring and a retofit. a retrofit is changing old parts for newer better parts. LED lights are brighter and last longer than regular lights, but as far as i know there are no LED head lights. and if you use LEDs for your turnsignals you will have to get a new flasher relay for the lower voltage that LEDs use.
