My knee makes a clicking sound?

When i push my wheel/tire back and forth it makes a clicking sound? Any ideas? (rear wheel drive)?

  • When i push me wheel/tire back and forth it makes a clicking sound? The car is still on the ground when i push it back and forth so i dont know if there is any play, just a clicking sound. Any ideas? My ride is a 93 240sx, rear wheel drive.

  • Answer:

Back and forth??In and out it could be a loose wheel bearing, loose lug nuts or a little bit of play in the gears inside your differential. Forwards or backwards could be backlash in your differential or a U-joint problem.

Sounds like either your wheel bearings need replacing or you have a CV (Constant Velocity) boot or joint that has gone bad. Here's how I would check. Go to a parking lot with plenty of room. Put your windows down and drive in figure 8's. If you hear a clicking sound, it's probably your CV joint that's going out. To check your wheel bearing I'd jack the car up; be sure to set the parking brake and chock the wheels. Grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to move it. There shouldn't be any play (Movement), if there is; it's most likely your bearings. You also can't rule out your rearend, but that's less likely. Good luck.

most likely a broken brake part
