What does make a car engine technically a six pack?

What can cause a car to die when coming to a stop?

• its a 96 Neon, 5speed, SOHC. at first we thought it was the coil pack. All day yesterday car ran great but last night when my boyfriend was driving home from his moms his car died when he came to a stop, he got it started back up and it died again at next stop. He did make it home though. He knows his clutch is going bad and may be a part of the probem, maybe. so we swapped his coil pack with mine (i also drive a neon) and he drove to wal mart and back with my coil pack it ran great. Today, we made a trip to autozone and car ran great again until we got into the parking lot of autozone. then starts dying at stops again with my coil pack still on. we tried everything but only this time we couldnt get it to start again. the car was trying to start but couldnt hear engine tryin to turn over. we had to have it towed home at a hefty price of $50. i put the coil pack back on my car and it ran normal, no problems. so if its not the coil pack what could it be??? maybe a sensor? clutch?? plz someone help. cant figure out whats going on with it.

  You need to spend another $50 on anOBD2 code reader. It will tell you what's wrong with the car. I suspect the head gasket.Neons are famous for blowing head gaskets, in fact there was a recall to upgrade the head gasket on many of them. If you get a code for wrong crank angle or wrong ignition timing, the cam belt is overdue for change and about to snap. That fault is unforgiving and will cost you several valves.
