Engine shaking when in neutral?

Why is my car engine shaking?

  • I have a 2005 Suzuki 4 cylinder Recently my car starts shaking when I try to start it & when I'm driving & I come to a stop the engine starts shaking again & it'll turn off unless I rev the engine or push the gas pedal, I changed a pipe that I thought was the problem which gives air to the engine & my car was working perfectly fine after I changed the pipe , & 2 days later I have the same problems, the service Engine light is also on. What could be causing this? Where should I get it checked out?

  • Answer:

    Most likely a cylinder misfire

Bring it into the dealer. I had the same problem with a Maxima that I owned. It ended up being something with the cylinder. It was a pretty serious problem and I ended up getting rid of the car. It would have cost almost as much if not more to fix it than what the car was worth. Take it to a mechanic someone you trust and who knows what they're doing.

You can have your motor-mounds checked sometimes if that's broken your engine can shake violently if that's what it is its a relatively inexpensive also if that's what it is try not to drive it your engine can fall out from under your car.

If I had to make a guess from what you describe it seems you have a very bad vacuum leak somewhere. Look for a hissing or sucking noise if you can get the car to idle while you look under the hood.

Usually when the SEL comes on the diagnostic system needs to be checked via a scan tool for best results. Do you have a scan tool? Do you want to try to fix it yourself? If so, you will need to get a Scan tool, and a Suzuki Factory Manual. The fact that you changed something and it in turn fixed the problem is interesting and I can see why you want to dive into this thing and fix it. Did you change the air filter? Stan
