How much would it cost to air commercial?

The cause of my air conditioner compressor problem and how much it would cost to fix it?

• I noticed my car's air conditioner didnt work when i bought my car almost 2 years ago, but never got it checked out since i didnt feel it was necessary. Recently I brought my car to the mechanic because my tires/breaks made a strange noise whenever i used the break or made a sharp turn. When i picked it up I was told everything was ok, my car is just a little noisy and to get my breaks checked in a couple months. I noticed my car was making a similar, but louder noise when i picked it up, but instead of just when i breaked, it made the noise the whole time my car was running. Since the mechanic didnt say anything about the noise i assumed that he was talking about my whole car being noisy, and not just my breaks. Today, I had to bring my car back for a small problem (strap on my muffler broke) and when picking my car up, the mechanic told me my car is making a loud noise (the noise i noticed the last time i picked my car up) because of my air conditioner compressor even with my air off. What could cause this problem to occur all of a sudden, and about how much would it cost to fix on a 98 chevy cavalier? Also if i dont fix it, could it cause an even bigger problem in the future?

  I would start by putting a little pressure ( by prying easily) on the a/c pulley back and forth to see if the bearings are going out. If it has slop or play then the bearings are bad in the compressor. If you don't want a/c or cant afford to fix it you can remove the compressor and get a shorter belt.
